Common Exception Words are sets of words that children in each year group are provided with and expected to be able to spell by the end of the academic year.

They are words that are very frequently used in their day-to-day writing, and therefore the more proficient they are in their spelling of these particular words, the more confident they will feel to independently include them in their work.

We would very much appreciate it if you could continue to practise the spelling and reading of these words with your child over this half term to help develop their knowledge of how each is spelt ready to use in their writing. We will be assessing the children on these (reading and writing) during the whole school assessment week in the penultimate weeks of the half term.
