29th June 2020 - Collective Worship with Steve Gurnett
Welcome. It's Monday, 29th June 2020.
Good morning, everyone. May the Lord be with you.
We are Bishop Ridley, we are One Community, Learning & Growing Together, Sharing the Love of God.
It’s Mr Keep here and today we are going to be joining with Steve Gurnett for our collective worship..
Our song for today is called Brave
Our Bible story for today is the story of Jonah (the book of Jonah in The Bible)
Our thought for the day
Today we will join Steve Gurnett to think about the story of Jonah.
A prayer for today
Today, we have thought about hope. Could you say your own prayer about hope today? You could say:
• Thank you
• Sorry
• Please
In the story today, Jonah prayed inside the belly of the whale. In his moment of greatest fear he prayed to the God. I have copied his prayer below. Perhaps you could read through this and see whether Jonah said thank you, sorry and please (Jonah 2: 1-9).
“In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me.
From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight;
yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’
The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.
To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit.
“When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.
But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
