We recommend that each child has a Bishop Ridley jumper/cardigan so that they are easily identifiable, e.g. on a school trip.
We want school uniform to be affordable for all families, so non-branded items can also be purchased from your local supermarket or online "school uniform" department.
Jewellery
In general, no jewellery should be worn. If a child wears earrings then they must be studs. The child must be able to take these out or cover with his/her own plasters for PE, games and swimming lessons. Staff are not allowed to remove or cover studs with plasters.
No hooped ear rings of any size must be worn as they present a health and safety risk to the child. Similarly, long hair (including braids), must be tied back during PE lessons. This follows the Borough’s Health and Safety Guidelines.
Jewellery may be worn if required for religious reasons. The school will work closely with parents/carers if this presents a health & safety issue.
Watches may be worn to school, but must be removed for PE lessons.
The school accepts no responsibility for looking after watches, studs or other jewellery.
Hairstyles and Accessories
The style should be appropriate for school; hair should not obstruct pupil’s vision.
Pupils with long hair must tie their hair back when necessary and are expected to have an appropriate hair band in school to facilitate this. Where hair is tied back, this should be done using a hair band or clip.
Hair bows are permitted, but should be reasonable in size. A rough guide would be that the bow (or any other accessory) could fit comfortably in the palm of a child’s hand, without it covering their fingers.
The school reserves the right to ask a pupil to remove a hair accessory if it does not comply with any of the above or is causing a distraction.
We would ask parents to avoid having ‘severe’ haircuts or designs shaved into hairstyles.
Personal Belongings
We provide all the necessary stationery equipment such as pencils, pens and rulers. No other personal belongings (e.g. toys) should be brought to school, unless specifically requested by the teacher.
