2nd November 2020
It's Monday, 2nd November 2020 and it’s Mr Keep here.
Hello everyone and welcome back from half term.
May the Lord be with you.
We are Bishop Ridley, we are One Community, Learning & Growing Together, Sharing the Love of God.
Let's start with our Bible Verse for this term
Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
(Colossians 3 v12)
Our thought for this term:
This term we are going to be thinking our new Christian Value of:
We have spoken about compassion before,... but can you remember what it means to show compassion?
Talk to the person next to you.
So.... what is compassion?
It is all about putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, especially when they are having a hard time.
It’s about trying to understand how they are feeling and then being pro-active in wanting to help.
The difference between pity and compassion:
pity just feels sorry for someone,
compassion does something about it.
We will come back to compassion throughout the term.
Our thought for today is that Remembering is Important
This week, we will be thinking about Remembrance in different ways. I wonder why it is important to
remember?
Can you tell a partner about a memory that makes you feel happy?
I wonder if there are also some sad memories too?
Memories are important because they are a link to the past that can affect the future. They can help us to understand people and this can help us to show compassion.
I wonder if anyone has seen one of these or if anyone has added a stone to something like this?
It's called a Cairn, and is a way to remember something.
In Joshua 4: 4-8 there is the story of Joshua’s memorial. Joshua led people from the twelve tribes of Isreal and took them across the River Jordan. As they crossed the river, each of the twelve men picked up a large stone and carried it with them on their shoulder. He said:
"These stones will remind the people of what the LORD has done. In the future, when your children ask what these stones mean to you, you will tell them that the water of the Jordan stopped flowing when the LORD's Covenant Box crossed the river. These stones will always remind the people of Israel of what happened here."
I wonder why it was important for the Israelites to mark and remember this moment as God’s people entered the
Promised Land?
Reflection Time
As we live our daily life today.... and tomorrow..... and the day after..... help us to remember the choices that we make and to think about how they impact on other people. Help us to show compassion by trying to make things better when people are in need.
Our Prayer for Today
Dear God
Thank you for our many positive memories.
Be with those who have sad memories.
Help us to make the world a better and a safer place.
Help us to try to see things from other people's point of view
Guide us to show Compassion and to make the world better for others.
in Jesus' name
AMEN
