Trust
Christians put their trust in God to love, guide and comfort them. Trust is the essence of faith; Christians place trust in God who they believe is trustworthy.
Trust is essential to human life and lies at the heart of all relationships and friendships. Trust entails an acknowledgement of vulnerability, putting yourself in others’ hands. We have to trust experts - such as pilots, dentists, surgeons. Yet, we recognise that sometimes there can be distrust between people.
We need to be able to trust others in our daily lives and we want to be trustworthy ourselves, so that others can have confidence in us and so that we can show God's love (living out our school vision) through the way we chose to live our lives.
How do we show Trust in school?
At Bishop Ridley, we model honesty in our actions and words (both adults and children). We encourage children to tell the truth, whether to teachers, classmates, or family. We encourage all members of the community to learn from mistakes when they occur so that we can become stronger as a community.
We understand how to be a good friend to others - we offer help, comfort, and encouragement, especially when someone is struggling or feels left out regardless of their background or beliefs. We rely on others to be there for us in our times of need.
What do we Learn about Trust in The Bible?
‘Trust in the Lord’ is a central theme in the Psalms. Time and time again, God is
acknowledged as the source of all true security and strength. This is contrasted with trust
in chariots, horses, weapons, wealth or princes (Psalm 20:7; 118:8-9). We can easily think
of the modern day equivalents. Trust placed in the wrong things is close to idolatry.
When we work with others, if we are willing to let go of control ourselves
and trust in the abilities and integrity of others, everyone can be enriched. Jesus, entrusted his ongoing work to his disciples and to the Christians who followed.
