Friday 17th July
And so we have reached the final day of our first week together! Thank you all for your hard work and determination this week; we are even more excited for September now!
Work for the Summer Holidays
It is important that you get plenty of rest and relaxation over the next 6 weeks so that you are prepared for starting work in September. This will be especially true if you are undertaking your 11 Plus tests.
Nevertheless, as you have you been away from school for the past 3 months, we do think it would be beneficial for you to revise some key areas ahead of starting Year 6. Attached below is a copy of the Year 5/6 spelling list, as well as a glossary for all of the terminology likely to come up in your spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) paper. Our first topic is Hola Mexico! and so we have attached a knowledge organiser, which we advise you to read over the holidays. It is also essential that you know your times tables up to 12 x 12, so you may want to spend some time on Times Table Rock Stars. If you have forgotten your log-in, let us know and we will send it to you. Finally, we have uploaded some handwriting resources as we are keen for all Year 6s to join up consistently in September. If you think that your handwriting could be improved, you may want to spend some time practising it over the summer in order to receive a pen.
Walking Home and Mobile Phones
From September, children in Year 6 will once again be allowed to walk home alone; however, we require parental consent for this to happen. If your parents would like you to walk home alone, make sure they send in a letter in the autumn. Please note that we will not be letting anyone walk home alone without a letter of consent.
If you are walking home alone, you will be allowed to bring a mobile phone into school (again, with parental consent). This should be handed to your class teacher in the morning and it will be stored in an individual zip-lock bag to reduce the risk of spreading germs. The phone will then be locked away until the end of the school day. Please be aware that if you are being collected by an adult, you should not be bringing a mobile phone into school.
We hope you have an amazing summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 3rd September.
