Handwriting
A huge area of focus for the children moving into Year 1 will be that of letter formation for both upper case and lower case letters. By the end of the year, it is the expectation that they will be able to form all of their letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the correct place, ready to progress onto cursive handwriting in Year 2. They will also need to form the ascenders and descenders for any necessary letters.
Please find below a link for our school’s handwriting provider – Letterjoin. There is also a link to an introductory video. On here there are lots of activities the children can undertake to work on developing their handwriting skills. We would recommend the first two sections listed on the left-hand side of the home screen – ‘patterns’ and ‘easy letters’. Please note, in Year 1 the children only need to practise non-cursive handwriting.
