Week 2 - 13/9/24
Dear Parents and Carers,
From this week, we have started undertaking our weekly Times Table test in class (please see your child's photocopied version of assessment which is attached to their Times Table Rockstars logins). Every Wednesday, your child will be undertaking a times table test in the following order 2, 5, 10, 3, 4, 8, 6, 7, 9, 11 then 12s. They will not move past their current stage until they get either 60/60 or 1 incorrect.
It is the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2) expectation that children will recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers.
We will be beginning with the 2 X-table and the children will have 3 minutes to complete the 60 questions. This is helping to provide the basic foundations for the rest of Maths learning in Year 3, as well as preparing them for the Year 4 multiplication test.
It is the end of Year 3 expectation that children can recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables.
We have noticed this week that a lot of the children are unable to count in 2, 5 and 10s fluently, without the use of their fingers to aid them or instant recall. Therefore, please could we ask you to get your child to practise their times tables every day for at least 10 minutes on either 'hit the button' or on their Times Table Rockstar accounts. These logins were sent home this week.
