11th July 2020
It's Thursday, 11th June 2020.
Hello everyone, it’s Mr Keep here.
May the Lord be with you.
We are Bishop Ridley, we are One Community, Learning & Growing Together, Sharing the Love of God.
This week we are going to be thinking about the Christian Value of Hope.
Our Bible passage for today is Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Our song for today is a new song for Bishop Ridley. It is called “Brave”. I hope you enjoy it and can maybe sing along with the word.
Our thought for the day
We’re going to have two challenges today!
Are you ready for the first one? Here we go….
What is the smallest thing you can find in your house or (if you’re back at school) in the classroom?
You’ve got 60 seconds – don’t run! On your marks, get set, Go!!
I’m in my office in school today and the smallest thing I found was a button! I have no idea where that came from. I think I better take it home with me to find if it’s fallen off an item of clothing!
I wonder what you managed to find. Is it small enough to hold in your hand? Maybe you can even fit it on a one of your finger tips.
Have a look at it closely. Observe the finest detail on it. If it’s something you’ve seen before, look especially closely to find the tiny marks and imperfections which make it unique.
How does it feel? Is it warm, or cold? Rough of smooth?
How does it make you feel? Is it small enough to show you how big you actually are in comparison?
Here’s the second challenge. For the last two days we’ve been thinking about the Parable for the Mustard Seed. Can you remember it well enough to tell to someone near you? You could even act it out as it’s not very long.
Reflection Time
Hold the small object you found at the start inside your hand and make a fist around it. Now think about the thing you hope for most right now, while holding your hand tight. As you start to open up your hand, say what you will do to help your hope to grow.
Start with: ‘To help my hope to grow, I will…’ You might also like to say a prayer, asking God to help you or reflect on how you can help your hope and those of other to grow.
A prayer for today
Today, we have thought about hope. Could you say your own prayer about hope today? You could say:
• Thank you
• Sorry
• Please
Or you could join with our prayer below:
Dear God,
Please help us to remember your plans for us: plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future.
Thank you for the promise of your love and wisdom. Help us to learn from our experiences and make wise decisions.
In your name,
Amen
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
