W/B - 8.9.25
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Year 3! We are very excited for the academic year ahead and look forward to getting to know you all.
Homework for this week - due in 16.9.25
English homework:
In this week's English lessons, the children have been focusing on their SPaG (spellings, punctuation and grammar) skills. Therefore, for this week's homework, we would like the children to write a minimum of 5 sentences about their return to school in Year 3 using a range of punctuation marks including: full stops, commas, capital letters, question marks and exclamation marks.
Each child has been sent home with their orange homework book. Please get the children to complete these sentences into this book and return it by next Tuesday.
We have very high standards of presentation in Year 3 and, as such, wish for the children to complete their homework in their neatest handwriting (small, consistent size, with correct ascenders and descenders in place), with a sharp writing pencil so any errors can be erased by a rubber before being corrected. Please do not allow your child to complete their homework in coloured pencil or pen.
Spellings:
Each child has been sent home with a spelling sheet for the whole term.
There is also a copy saved on the class page, in case any get lost at home. For this term, your child will either be in the 'sharks' or 'whales' group.
Please make sure you check the dates so that you know that your child is practising the correct spellings for each week.
Now they are in the Key Stage 2, your child will verbally be told their score, which they can pass onto their home adults at the end of the day.
Reading:
Last week, each child was sent home with a reading folder, reading book and reading record. It is really important that the children are reading as much as possible (preferably daily).
There is a significant jump in difficulty in terms of comprehension skills between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, and the more they read at home, the more their comprehension skills will develop.
Please make a note each time your child has read for at least 10 minutes so it goes towards their 50 reads to get a book from the vending machine. Please remind your child to put their reading book in their class reading folder box daily so it can be changed if necessary.
Thank you in advance for your support with the children’s home learning.
