Maths Homework – due 23.9.25
During Maths lessons this week, we have noticed that some of the children are finding it a little tricky to count in 2, 5 and 10s fluently, without the use of their fingers to aid them. By the start of Year 3, they need to be able to do so with instant recall. Therefore, please could we ask you to help your child to practise their 2, 5 and 10 times tables regularly on either 'Hit the Button' or on their ‘Times Table Rockstar’ accounts. This week’s Maths based homework will also help to consolidate this knowledge.
From next week, the children will be introduced to a new Times Tables scheme that will run throughout Lower Key Stage 2. Number Sense is a programme that focuses entirely on times tables. It provides the structure and depth to times tables teaching that children need to achieve fluency in multiplication and division facts and concepts. It is a mastery programme, designed to achieve fluency for every child. They will be taught in daily 10-minute fluency sessions, plus 14 one-hour conceptual lessons spread through Year 3 and 4.
Please note, it is the end of Year 3 expectation that children can recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables with instant recall, as well as their 2, 5 and 10 times tables from Year 2.
