From time to time we send out questionnaires to parents and carers as part of our self-evaluation process. We ask for opinions and ideas on matters such as behaviour, teaching and learning, homework and the pastoral support we give our children.

The vast majority of parents say that their children enjoy coming to school, that they are doing well, are well cared for, that behaviour is good and that they are happy with the school.

One key issue that emerged from our last questionnaire was that several parents wanted more information about the progress their children are making. As a result we moved the autumn term open evening back a month to enable teachers to discuss progress with parents rather than being just a ‘meet the teacher’ session. We also now send out an interim progress report early in the new year for each pupil. The open evening in March is an opportunity for parents to look through their children’s work and discuss how they are doing. In early July we send out annual reports detailing the progress and attainment of all pupils.

We have also introduced an on-line home reading programme in year 2 as part of our drive to improve standards in reading. We issued questionnaires to parents after it had been up and running for half a term and the response was overwhelmingly positive, so much so that we plan to extend the programme to other year groups.
