Years Five and Six Curriculum

Outlined below is the curriculum your child is following this year.  We hope that it will be of use to you when discussing school with your child and looking for ways in which you can support them at home.

Fiction -  explore features of contrasting genres and plans and write extended stories in a chosen genre. Read a range of modern  children’s literature.

Non-fiction - read a range of biographies and autobiographies and evaluate the language, style and effectiveness of examples of non-fiction. Learn how to select the appropriate style and form to suit a specific purpose and audience.

Poetry - explore personification in poets’ work and use this as a basis for  own personification poems.

Year 5  -  myths and legends. 

Read a collection of legends about Merlin and King Arthur

Write  own versions.
