Nursery

Welcome to Bishop Ridley Nursery

The Nursery is open five days a week - Mondays to Fridays during term time.  The morning session begins at 9 am and finishes at 11.30 am.  The afternoon session begins at 12.40 pm and finishes at 3.10 pm. Each session can accept up to twenty six children.  The Nursery is staffed by a Nursery Teacher, a Nursery Nurse and a Classroom Assistant.

Initially, the parents are invited to a meeting with the Headteachers where the parents are given some details about how the Nursery is run.  Parents are then invited to an interview with the Nursery Staff and this allows the staff to discuss the children in more detail with their parents.  Separation anxiety is dealt with very sensitively and children are settled in very gently and carefully.  Parents are invited to discuss how well their child has settled in after the child has spent one half-term in the setting.  Later on, during the academic year, parents are given a verbal report on their children’s progress.  This is then followed by an end of year school report.

The six areas that are taught within the setting are :

Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

Communication, Language and Literacy.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

Physical Development.

Creative Development.

The topics taught throughout the year are:

Autumn Term

‘Ourselves’ and ‘Christmas’.

Spring Term

‘Spring’ and ‘Easter’

Summer Term

‘Minibeasts’ and ‘Summer’

The children are encouraged to work on various activities in both the indoor and outdoor areas.  There is a strong emphasis on experimenting with exploratory materials (such as playdough, compost, wet sand, jelly etc.), so as to encourage their curiosity.

Both the indoor and outdoor areas are set up on a daily basis to ensure that the six areas of learning are covered.

From Easter onwards, the children are asked to complete a homework sheet once a week to help them with their pencil control skills.

The children have the opportunity to take part in ‘Special Assemblies’ three times a year and parents are invited along, so as the children can show some of their art work.

We like to think that we create a happy and positive environment for our Nursery Children.
