School Travel Plan
A School Travel Plan (STP) is a document produced by the whole school community. It looks at how students, parents and staff travel to and from school, raising issues of concern and ideas on how to improve matters.
The overall aim of having a STP is to encourage a reduction in car use around the location of the school.
Bishop Ridley is one of the schools in Bexley which has taken up this initiative, having devised our first STP in 2009 and updating it accordingly. We last updated this in 2011 and achieved the Bronze Award for Sustainable Travel. This has enabled us to apply for (and we have now been granted) funding for the allocation of cycle shelters for our pupils. We will keep you updated on this.
Encouraging less vehicle activity around our school and more walking/cycling is a major target of our STP as we hope this will improve the health and safety of our pupils, especially as we hold a Healthy Schools Award.
We also encourage road safety awareness through our Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) and our Nursery children are now signed up to The Children’s Traffic Club. More information to follow.
